living green

Sick of feeling like the problem of climate change is too big to tackle? Already bought a COyou2 personal carbon capture system, but want to go further? Good on you! We can all take small but effective steps toward sustainability. Here are our top ten tips for living green with a clear conscience.

1. Prevent water evaporating from your drinking glass by covering it in between sips, or use a sippy-cup. If every Australian did this, we'd save 10.8million litres of water per year!

2. Handwash your clothes using a scrub board - washing machines may be convenient, but they are very water-intensive.

3. Instead of buying carbon-intensive dairy milk, try making your own soy milk. You'll save the climate, and on your shopping bill!

4. Instead of wasteful birthday, christmas and anniversary presents, purchase COyou2 kits for your loved ones. It's the gift that keeps giving - to your loved ones, and the environment, too.

5. For a guilt-free holiday, try camping instead of that 5-star resort in Bali. And for bonus greenie points, find a camping ground within cycling or walking distance of your house.

6. Offset the carbon you have already emitted into the atmosphere via a carbon offset company. A 21-year-old will have emitted roughly 7.8 tonnes of C02 just by breathing!

7. Next time a guest come to stay at your house, put them up in a tent in the yard. Teepees are approximately 80% more energy efficient than conventional rooms - if Native Americans can do it, so can you!

8. Buy an energy-conserving car. A Toyota Prius is only $37 000 - small price to pay for saving the planet.

9. Live a pet-free life. With all that water, pet food and breathing, a pet dog emits roughly 0.25million tonnes of C02 per year, and consumes 680litres of water. How would you like the environment to pay for that?

10. Instead of sponsoring a child in Uganda, why not offset their breathing emissions?
